Don’t forget to update your Universal Credit journal

We recently sent you a letter explaining how your rent and service charges will be changing in the new financial year.

We recently sent you a letter explaining how your rent and service charges will be changing in the new financial year.

If you claim Universal Credit (UC), you must advise the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) of your new charges on 1 April 2024.

If you are on a journal based UC claim, on 1 April 2024 you will receive a ‘To-do’ notification in your UC online journal titled ‘Confirm your Housing Costs.’ You will need to update this with your new rent and the date it is effective from (1 April 2024). Please do not use the ‘change of circumstances’ option to report this change.

We cannot do this for you and if you do not do this, you will be underpaid housing rent costs which may lead to your rent account going into debt.

  • You have previously received a rent notification letter from the us advising you of your new weekly rent charges.
  • Log into your UC online journal.
  • On your ‘To Do List’ you will have a new task, ‘Confirm your Housing Costs’.
  • You will be prompted to update your rent and service charge details which are available on your rent notification letter.
  • Once you have provided all the required information it will be presented to you for checking and confirmation. You will be able to change it if you have entered the incorrect information.

Please note that you are unable to update your UC online journal before 1 April 2024.

If you are on a telephone-based UC claim (not an online journal), you will need to contact the DWP on 1 April 2024, on 0800 328 5644 to let them know the new housing costs.
