You said, we did | Recruiting volunteer drivers

It is our commitment to you to help reduce social isolation and one of the ways we do this is by arranging day trips for our tenants who are aged over 55.

As we are keen to support local community organisations, we work with Preston Community Transport to provide transport for these trips.

Unfortunately, last summer we had to cancel a few trips due to a shortage of volunteer drivers.

Knowing how much these trips mean to our independent living tenants, we organised a recruitment drive for volunteers.

As part of this, we part-funded MIDAS (Minibus Drivers Awareness Scheme) courses in partnership with Preston Community Transport.

This resulted in three new volunteers which has helped Preston Community Transport keep up with demand.

Clare Watson, Customer Voice Activities Coordinator, said: “We are always pleased to support local community organisations and appreciate the work the volunteer drivers at Preston Community Transport do to drive our tenants to exciting places. So knowing they needed more volunteers, we were more than happy to extend our partnership and part fund MIDAS training for three volunteer drivers.

“This has benefited our tenants hugely as we understood how disappointed they were when we had to cancel their trips last summer. But since we recruited the new volunteers, they have told us that they have enjoyed their outings and always look forward to booking on the next one.”
