Work has started on our latest new housing development in Cottam, Preston

A sod-cutting ceremony marked the start of work at our new housing development in Preston.

Working with property developer, Breck we are building 102 new homes off Sidgreaves Lane in Cottam. The new housing development, which is hoped will be complete by early 2027, will include homes for affordable rent and shared ownership, allowing people to get a foot on the property ladder at a reduced cost.

The development is being part funded by Homes England and property developer Breck is working to maximise the use of local labour and skills.

Our Executive Director of Development, Les Warren, officially broke ground on the site, along with colleagues from the group, Breck and Simon Fenton Partnership.

Les, said: “Having recently marked 30 years as a housing association and playing a key role developing affordable housing in the North West, it is fantastic to be starting work on this new development in Cottam, Preston.

“As a social housing landlord, we are dedicated to positively impacting people's lives and communities by providing high-quality, affordable, well-maintained homes where people feel secure and are proud to live in.

"This development will bring much-needed affordable housing to the area and we are delighted to be working with Breck and Homes England in providing them."

Andy Garnett, director for Breck, said: “The construction of new high-quality affordable homes will be integral to the development of communities across the UK for the coming generations. Since Breck was formed four years ago, we have grown our active development pipeline to over 1200 residential properties across the North West. We previously partnered with Progress on the development of 55 affordable homes in Catterall, which completed in 2022.

“Sidgreaves Lane is a significant new development for the Cottam area and will give individuals, families, and couples a high-quality home they may not have otherwise been able to afford. We’re looking forward to once again working with our partner Progress and progress construction on-site.”

The new development will benefit from energy efficient photovoltaic roof panels to ensure household running costs are kept to a minimum. The new homes will be let to people with a local connection to Preston and surrounding areas and will be allocated through Select Move.
