What else has been happening?

  • We are working with IHOPE, a community organisation run by one of our tenants, Tracey, to hold pre-loved pop-up events, with support from Fylde Food Community Hub. People are invited to pick up any items for free, donate unwanted gifts, or pop in for a chat. We held our first one at the beginning of February and it was such a success, we had another in June.

Here is what some of the local residents had to say about the event:

Tenant Kieron said: “I came to see what there was and get stuff for my children. It is a great idea and we have donated items ourselves. Now I know there are more activities at Lower Lane, I will visit more.”

Another tenant, Wendy, came from Warton to attend the event: “It is lovely to be able to share things. We can get rid of stuff and pick up items as good as new for free.”

Fiona and Gail live on the estate and think the pop-up event is a useful way to pick up much-needed items.

They said: “Everything is so expensive and lots of people are struggling. A place like this is a massive help for a lot of people.”

The pre-loved pop-up event is open to all members of the community – not just our tenants.

Jo-Jo is a regular supporter of IHOPE and loves to visit the events to swap items: “When my children grow out of things, I come here and swap.”

Keep an eye out on the events session of our website and social media pages for future pre-loved pop-up events.

  • Half term holiday fun

We hosted a pebble painting and games session during February half term.

Tenant Ruth, who visited with her two grandsons, said; “The boys have enjoyed it. They loved painting the stones and playing Jenga. It has been good to give them something to do during the school holiday.”

Kenneth, who has lived on the estate most his life, said: “It is good for the kids and for socialising, especially during the holidays. People come to the centre for a chat and a brew. It is nice to see new faces too.”

  • Our community centre is available to other community groups: Barnardo’s children’s charity has recently held first aid and cooking sessions for its young carers.
