Tenants help create a giant football scarf for Preston North End

A group of independent living tenants will soon be part of football history as they have taken part in a giant knitting project for local club Preston North End.

Tuson House tenants Ann, Myra, Sylvia, and Sheila, along with fellow knitting group member Ruth, have knitted a 14.5 ft blue and white scarf for the Giant Scarf Project, led by Preston North End Community and Education Trust (PNECET) and the National Football Museum.

Their scarf will be shown at various locations including schools, libraries and community centres. It will then join other scarves to form a giant scarf, which will go on display at the National Football Museum in Manchester for prosperity.

Ann said: “We heard about the project and as we have a knitting club here, we thought it would be a good idea to do. We did 4 oblong pieces each, sewed it together and added our names on. We also put an emblem saying Tuson House Crafty Women 2025 and the PNE emblem for prosperity. We enjoyed doing it and was happy to do our bit.”

Sylvia added: “It is nice for the football team that we have joined in.”

The scarf was collected by Michael, Heritage Coordinator at PNECET. He said: “Thank you very much for being part of this project. It is a great scarf. This project is about getting people involved in a craft and something that represents the community.”

  • If anyone feels inspired to get knitting, PNECET is also collecting regular scarves to be donated to The Foxton Centre, which supports vulnerable communities in Preston.

Any regular sized scarves for The Foxton Centre can be dropped off at one of PNECET's hubs: PNE Club Shop (Sir Tom Finney Way), PNECET Offices (Alan Kelly Town End), Ingol Library, Ventnor Place, Ingol, Sharoe Green Library, Fulwood, Preston, or Ribbleton Library, Ribbleton.

 Alternatively, PCENET can arrange collection.
