Tenants at Jubilee Court share community spirit
Tenants at Jubilee Court in Leyland who would have been on their own spent Christmas Day enjoying good food and company thanks to two kind-hearted tenants.
Lyndsey and Roy, who live in a general needs flat within the scheme, cooked around 20 meals as they invited tenants to join them in the community centre. They even hand delivered four meals to tenants who were unable to leave their flat.
Lyndsey, 38, said: “Roy dressed up as Santa and we did a Secret Santa for some of the tenants here. Some didn’t want to open their gift because they said they would be on their own on Christmas Day and that was going to be their only present.
“So Roy and I decided we would cook for those who would be on their own.
“Everyone enjoyed the food. It got people chatting and mingling with people they wouldn’t normally mix with. That’s what communities should be about. Everyone getting together and getting to know each other.”
The gathering was a family affair, as Lyndsey’s 13-year-old son prepped the veg, and they invited extended relatives to join them.
They loved doing it so much, they plan to do it all again this year.
Lyndsey added: “Christmas 2024 was our first one. We want to do it again this year and we want to promote it better so more people from Jubilee Court can attend.
“Roy now wants to do a barbecue over the summer and something for Halloween. We just love things like this and giving something back.”
Eagle-eyed people may also recognise Lyndsey and Roy as they have dressed up as the Grinch and Ice Princess and were on stage at the Christmas Lights Switch on in Leyland last November. They have also attended events at the Royal British Legion and Wishing Well community pub in Lostock Hall.
