Shaping futures, changing lives - Abel's story
Abel has been working with Progress Futures to support him through a barbering course and he has good news - he is now a qualified barber!
Progress Futures customer and Progress Housing Group tenant, Abel, recently got in touch to let us know that he recently passed all his barbering exams and he is now a qualified barber. But his journey doesn't end there...
On completion of his barbering course, Abel contacted his Progress Futures mentor, to ask for help and support in finding out more about studying for a qualification in counselling. For several years Abel has been interested in finding out more about counselling and finding a local place to study.
Working together, Abel found a few counselling courses near to where he lives. As he had enjoyed studying at Preston College previously and it was close to home and easy to commute to, he decided he would like to investigate their counselling courses in more detail.
At the next few appointments Progress Futures and Abel researched the counselling course Preston College had on offer, and they spoke with college staff to get all the relevant details. Abel decided quickly that he would like to get himself a place on the course, as it suited him and fit in nicely with his other employment.
With Progress Futures' support, Abel enrolled for the Level 2 Counselling Course online and was told soon after that he would be contacted by college staff for a telephone interview, to make sure he met the criteria and would be suitable for the course.
After his telephone interview, Abel was offered a place on the course and started last month.
We are wishing you the very best of luck Abel!
