Project SEARCH interns volunteer in our communities

Welcome to our new Project SEARCH interns who have been supporting our communities.

Six new students: Alex, Alexandra, Cameron, Hayden, Max and William have joined us as we continue our partnership with Runshaw College and the innovative Project SEARCH programme, which provides internship opportunities for young people with autism or those with learning disabilities.

Our six new interns have now fully settled in next stage of their internships, each working in different areas of the organisation.

Over the next few months, they will each carry out three placements across various departments, from working with our Property Services Team to our People Team. Each placement aims to provide them valuable work experience and opportunities to develop their skills and gain confidence in their abilities.

They have also made a valuable contribution by volunteering in our communities as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Back in September they planted bulbs and shrubs and picked up litter outside the community centre at Saltcotes in Lytham St Annes.

In December, they decorated the community centre at Lower Lane ready for the Breakfast with Santa event, and sang carols for independent living tenants at Greenwood Court.

And this month they helped to keep Lower Lane tidy by litter picking outside, removing all the Christmas decorations and joined tenants for a community lunch.

Will Sutton, Course Leader, Supported Internship Programme at Runshaw College, said: "It has been a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

"Activities like these help develop a sense of connection, build confidence, and encourage students to engage with their wider community.
"We're proud to see our students making a positive impact while developing valuable social and communication skills - essential to their progression from education into employment."
