Project SEARCH interns volunteer in our communities
Our Project SEARCH interns have been volunteering to support our tenants.
Leon, Lucy, Charlie, Michael, Gwen, Emily, and Joseph visited Greenwood Court in Leyland, as part of the volunteering element of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. The youngsters spent a morning chatting to the tenants, listening to their life stories, and playing board games.
Cathryn, Independent Living Coordinator, said: “It was great to see some of our tenants enjoy chatting to the young students and playing games. It really brightened their day. Activities like these are really beneficial and help to reduce social isolation. It was a pleasure to have the students for the day and we thank them for their time.”

The interns also helped to decorate Lower Lane Community Centre for its Breakfast with Santa event. You can read more about the event here: Our Fylde tenants enjoy Christmas activities
They returned a month later to serve soup and hot drinks at the community centre's Warm Hub, and pick up litter around the estate.
Will Sutton, Course Leader of the Supported Internship Programme, said: “We are immensely proud of our supported internship students for their hard work and dedication to making a positive impact in the community.
“The interns had a lovely morning at Greenwood Court. Volunteering at the independent living scheme provided a unique opportunity for our interns to interact with tenants from different generations and backgrounds. It allows them to make a positive impact on other people's lives and enhance their patience and understanding.
“It was also inspiring to witness our students' dedication and enthusiasm as they transformed Lower Lane Community Centre into a magical winter wonderland. Not only did our students showcase their creativity and organisational skills, but they also embraced the spirit of giving back. They worked hard to ensure that every child who attends the event will have a great time.”
- Our Project SEARCH programme with partners Runshaw College, DFN Project SEARCH and Lancashire County Council, provides internship opportunities for young autistic people and young people with learning disabilities. Over the next six months, the interns will carry out three placements across various departments, from working with our Property Services Team to our People Team.
