Performance against our Value for Money Strategy

Value for Money (VFM) is at the heart of the services we deliver.

We want to ensure that we are offering the best possible services in the most efficient and effective way. You can view our annual VFM self-assessment document on our website: www.progressgroup.org.uk/VFM

The savings and efficiencies we make through VFM activity can be used to provide more new homes for people who need them; invest in local communities so they offer a safe and healthy place to live; and support people to achieve more opportunities and independence.

We would like to share some examples of our VFM activity, for 2023/24:

  • We reviewed and re-procured over 32 contracts totalling £41.9 million and have either maintained the existing cost or contained to a low-cost increase, resulting in £0.6 million savings.

Some of the contracts we reviewed included:

  • Re-procurement of our building materials stores contract for the next 5 years.
  • Re-procurement of our Electricity contracts for the next 18 months.
  • Procurement of LED lighting for some of our independent living schemes.

Looking forwards to 2024/25, we are planning to:

  • Review various contracts including national repairs contractors, lift serving, external and internal decorating and some support services for our Property Services department with a total value of £25 million.

  • Develop further a number of social value initiatives that have been carried out throughout the year with our suppliers. They helped us to supply a large shed at The Place community centre in Leyland, along with gardening works and community clean-up days. Our suppliers also helped to support activities at our independent living schemes and with our Soup Dragons Den community project.

  • Achieve savings or avoid/minimise cost increases, and improve services to our tenants. We aim to continually assess opportunities to enhance our services and actively involve our colleagues and tenants to achieve value for money.
