Listening to our tenants - fire safety
You said it, so we did it. Independent living tenants told us that they wanted to feel more confident about fire safety, so we organised fire safety awareness training sessions.
More than 40 tenants attended a session at one of the following schemes: Orchard Grange, Old Mill Court, Amounderness Court, Outram House, Lowerhouse, Lowerfield, Northbrook Gardens and South Hey.
The session was delivered by Ged at Housing HS Compliance Ltd, who discussed causes of fires, spotting hazards, raising the alarm, how to escape and human behaviour.
Tenants said they found the course useful and thanked Progress Housing Group for organising it.
Brenda told us: “It was very useful and I feel a bit wiser now about my own safety. It is also useful for me to pass onto other tenants. It is good that Progress has organised it so we can all learn.”
Another tenant was able to use what they learnt during the session, as they discovered a frayed cable and replaced it straight away.
Ryan Elston, Health and Safety Practitioner, said: “The fire safety awareness session was requested through the Tenants’ Forum and was something we were pleased to accommodate as fire safety is such an important topic. The session was aimed at raising awareness around the importance of fire safety and give tenants confidence in identifying potential fire hazards.
“Thank you to everyone who attended. We have received really positive feedback from tenants, which is very pleasing to hear.”
