Georgia's story
After being asked to leave home, Georgia faced indefinite sofa surfing until Key stepped in with support to help her create a home to call her own.
Georgia was not getting along with her mum and was asked to leave home. Aged only 21 and with nowhere to go, sleeping on a friend's sofa was the only option. Georgia knew that she had to work out a more longer term solution and she approached her local council for help. The Council put her in touch with Key Unlocking Futures, a charitable arm of Progress Housing Group, which helps people to build better lives for themselves and prevent homelessness through practical and emotional support services such as counselling, mediation, life skills and coaching, tenancy training and employment mentoring.
Key provided Georgia with a case worker, John, who supported her to apply for a housing association property. Georgia was thrilled when she received the call to say that a new-build one bedroom apartment with Progress Housing Group was available for her to move into. Georgia and her dog, Dolly, are now enjoying the stability and security of a home of her own whilst the space has enabled her to rebuild her relationship with her mum.
“Having my own house has given me my own space, which is better. I can now come home from work and relax. Me and my mum didn’t get on at all before but now we get on, it has made us have a better relationship. We don’t argue whatsoever now, she comes round her for a cup of tea and there are no argument so it’s really nice.”
“I would like to thank Key for all there help whilst I was going through a tough time. I would really recommend their help to anyone who is going through a tough time, they really supported me when I need help.”
