Charity Fund | Tenants raise money for charities
Well done to independent living tenants who have raised money for charity.
- Tenants at Ancenis Court in Kirkham raised £740 for Macmillan Cancer Support during a coffee morning, auction and raffle.
This will be match funded by Progress Housing Group to £1,480.
Edna, who organised the event said: "It was a good morning and I was pleased with how much we raised. The auction did really well. We had drinks, shoes, handbags and food hampers and items donated by the Co Op and Lily B's Clothing in Kirkham. I also had a cake stall with homemade cakes which did well."
- Elsewhere, tenants from various schemes enjoyed a Macmillan coffee and cake afternoon at Lowerhouse in Leyland.
The event, organised by Sandra, raised £264.45, which was match funded by Progress Housing Group to £530.90.
Sandra said: “I want to thank everyone who contributed, bringing cakes, and everyone who joined us and donated. It was overwhelmed.
“The money we have raised is out of this world. It is going to help so much and hopefully ease the challenges people with cancer are facing.
“It was a fantastic afternoon and I was floored by how much everyone embraced it.”
Elinor (pictured left) made some cakes and helped to serve sweet treats to other tenants. She said: “I wanted to help out because my daughter passed away from cancer. I like doing things and helping other people. It is nice to see everyone turn up.”
Another tenant, Barbara, said she enjoyed the event, adding: “It is the first time I have seen as many people here, which is nice. I wanted to come to support Macmillan.”
Sandra is now hoping to build on this success and organise more events at the centre, starting with Halloween bingo.
She added: “My mum was a warden and I know what it means for everyone to mingle, so I want to help get people using the centre again. There’s a lot of people, like myself, who are on their own, so a coffee and a chat can really make a difference.”
- Linda organised a Christmas fair at Bolton Croft, with various cake, craft and gift stalls. She raised £530 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation and will apply to Progress Housing Group for match funding.
