Are you thinking of swapping or downsizing?
Over time, your needs can change and you may wish to move home.
We have several options for you to remain a tenant with us, such as a mutual exchange or a transfer.
Sharon* had lived in her three-bedroomed house in Leyland on her own for eight years before she realised she wanted to downsize.
With support from our Area Housing Team, she moved to a one-bedroomed bungalow in Penwortham. She received a £500 downsizing payment which she used to clear her rent arrears.
She tells us: “I had an operation on my leg and I could no longer get up the stairs, so I needed to downsize.
“I spoke to someone at Progress who gave me all the information I needed. They were very supportive and it all went through quickly.”
Sharon, 72, says she recommends people consider downsizing if their current home no longer meets their needs.
She says: “It is easier for me now I am in a bungalow and the bills are cheaper.
“It may be stressful moving, but once you are settled in, you are alright.”
*Sharon is not the tenant’s real name.
There are two options for downsizing
A mutual exchange
A mutual exchange is where two tenants agree to swap homes. This is the fastest and easiest way to move. Find out more information here: Swapping or downsizing your home
We will refund the costs for tenants utilising the House Exchange or HomeSwapper websites.
Transfer
You may want to request a transfer to another property for a number of reasons but we prioritise those people whose needs we recognise as being urgent.
We advise considering mutual exchanges where possible because they can be a quicker way to move.
If you would like to downsize, please contact your Area Housing Team on 0333 320 4555.
