Clean neighbourhoods

We are committed to keeping our shared spaces clean and tidy so that our neighbourhoods are vibrant areas to live.

Cleaning of communal areas

Our communal areas are currently cleaned by R&J Facilities Ltd. Blocks of more than two floors most likely also have window cleaning carried out, which is currently done by Cain Window Cleaning. How often they clean the shared spaces will depend upon previous consultations carried out with tenants, as the cost of the cleaning is covered by your service charge.

We employ domestics to clean at each of our independent living schemes. How often they clean the shared spaces will depend upon previous consultations carried out with tenants, as the cost of the cleaning is covered by your service charge.

Cleaning in communities

Any issues with a communal area or your neighbourhood could be a job for our estate caretakers.

Our estate caretakers look after the upkeep and the appearance of our estates. They complete patrols of the areas particularly in hot spot areas,  carry out weekly fire safety checks in communal areas and work closely with other agencies that work in the area.

Our estate caretakers can help with the following:

  • Fly-tipping
  • Graffiti
  • Reporting communal repairs.

Our estate caretakers cannot remove the following:

  • Recyclable items - these can be put in the local authority recycling bin
  • Any domestic waste left in black bags - these must be disposed of in an appropriate bin provided by the local authority.

Please note: It is your responsibility to keep your property and neighbourhood tidy.

Your local authority can also help with waste disposal and will usually arrange to remove large or bulky items that you no longer need, but depending on where you live, this service may be charged.

Occasionally, we will hire a skip and place it in your neighbourhood so you can dispose of things you no longer want. When we do this, we advertise it in advance.

If you see something in your neighbourhood that needs attention, you can report it to the Customer Contact Centre by telephoning  0333 320 4555 or via live chat.

Litter picking will be carried out before any ground maintenance is carried out to ensure that the area is left clean and tidy. In addition, our estate caretakers will carry out regular patrols of areas and litter pick where needed. If you have noticed an area of concern, you can request an estate caretaker visit by contacting us.

Fly-tipping is a nuisance to all residents and a criminal offence. You can report any incidents you witness to Crime Stoppers to provide any useful information to prevent it from happening again. If the fly-tipping has been left on an area of land belonging to Progress Housing Group, then our estate caretaker will investigate further and arrange for it to be removed - you can request a visit by contacting us. If the fly-tipping is hazardous, it will be removed the next day. Any other fly-tipped waste will be removed within 7 days of notification.

Occasionally, we hold a community clean-up day in your area. We will always promote the event in advance on our website, social media, and emails, and welcome input from the community during a good spring clean of an area. We will provide a skip for community use and refreshments where funds allow. Check our events and social media, or sign up for emails.

Graffiti is a nuisance to all tenants and a criminal offence. You can report any incidents you witness to Crime Stoppers to provide any helpful information to prevent it from happening again. Or, if you have witnessed it, please contact your Area Team for further investigation so appropriate action can be taken.

If the graffiti has caused damage to property belonging to Progress Housing Group, then our estate caretaker will investigate further and arrange for it to be removed.

If the graffiti is offensive/obscene, we will remove it the next day. For any other graffiti we will remove it within 5 days of notification.

If the graffiti is offensive, it may be considered a hate crime

We know pests can be a nuisance, damage your home and can affect your health. However, we are only responsible for pest control in communal areas. Your local council usually offers services to remove pests like wasps, rats, mice and bedbugs. Please contact us for advice if you are experiencing any issues.

You can help avoid issues by ensuring that rubbish is disposed of correctly, not putting out food for wild animals and following the advice of professionals where needed.

We ask you to use your local councils’ waste collection services for your bulky waste.

Each council has its arrangements and scale of charges for using the service. Our Caretaking Team will be able to help guide you with using this service if you need it.

You can arrange with your local council to collect large items, such as beds, carpets, fridges, and settees.

If we receive a report of an abandoned car or another vehicle that has been left on an area of land belonging to Progress Housing Group, then our Area Teams will investigate within 5 days of notification.
