Right to buy or acquire your home

If you’re a housing association tenant in England you could be eligible to buy the home you rent at a discount.

Whether you have such an entitlement and the amount of discount you are eligible for depends on your type of home and the length of time you have spent as a qualifying tenant.

Right to Buy and Acquire

The statutory Right to Buy scheme allows eligible council and housing association tenants in England buy their homes.

The maximum discount relating to Right to Buy depends on the date upon when your application is received.

• For applications received before 21 November 2024 the maximum discount is £102,400 (£136,400 in London).

• For applications received on or after 21 November the maximum discount is £26,000 in the North West (£16,000 in London).

If you are not eligible to buy your home under the statutory Right to Buy scheme you may qualify under the Right to Acquire scheme.

The maximum discount relating to Right to Acquire is £9,000.
